Our history

Since 1997, PayPoint has been simplifying the complex business of payments. It’s a challenge that demands all the creativity and innovation of an enthusiastic technology business, allied with the experience and depth of specialist expertise.

Today, PayPoint is an international group that's trusted with billions of pounds in transactions. We're leading the way in retail technology, services and multi-channel payments across a huge range of sectors, including housing associations, parcel delivery, financial, leisure, transport, smart ticketing, utilities, local authorities and telecommunications.

So, where did it all begin?

Simpler bill payments 

Back in 1997, we created the UK’s first nationwide bill payment network, based in the stores people use every day. It was a simple, bold solution to the frustrations of relying on banks, utility showrooms and Post Offices, and it quickly became the consumer’s favourite.

Getting mobile 

Well ahead of the surge in mobile commerce, we created PayByPhone. Instead of hunting for loose change under the passenger seat, you could now pay for car park tickets with your mobile.

Unsurprisingly, PayByPhone became the world leader in its field — and it still is. Today, we have flagship services in cities such as London, Manchester, Paris, Geneva, San Francisco, Miami and Vancouver.

Since its launch, we’ve registered millions of active users for mobile solutions in a whole range of transport sectors – from bike rental and taxis to electric vehicle charging and ticketing.

Easier retail 

More recently, we’ve been at the forefront of the ‘Click and Collect’ boom in multi-channel retailing. Our CollectPlus service enables consumers to send and receive goods through their local stores. 

It’s another highly complex process made seamlessly simple. Shoppers now use CollectPlus to handle over a million parcels every month, from retailers like John Lewis, Asos, eBay and most of the UK’s other leading internet and multi-channel retailers.

In February 2014, leading independent energy supplier, Utilita, launched our integrated multi-channel solution for its smart meter customers

We never stop innovating. Our solutions have consistently led the way in payments, both in the UK and internationally. Now, we’re redefining the entire sweep of multi-channel payments with MultiPay.
